QUESTIONS REGARDING THE PORTRAIT...

Q:  Do you only draw dogs?

No, I draw all animals.  As you can see on my site I have also draw cats for customers.  I have experience drawing a wide variety of animals, and I am always interested in drawing new and unique pets.

Q:  How many pictures should I submit for the portrait?

You can submit as many photos as you want, and I will pick the best one, or use a combination of several of the submitted photos.

Q:  If I mail my photographs to you will I get my photographs back?

If you submit the photos via “snail mail” I will take excellent care of them, and send them back to you with the portrait.

Q:  What type of material do you use to draw the portrait on?

I do not use canvas, so that I can save you money.  The type of paper I use varies depending on the portrait.  Meaning, I use different colors and textures depending on the size and type of the drawing.  However, the paper is always acid-free and of a very heavy stock which will last indefinitely.

Q:  Can I have multiple animals in one drawing?

The answer to this is rather complex.  The short answer is yes, you can have multiple subjects in one portrait.  However, the number of animals in a portrait is determined upon the size of the portrait you request.

An 8x10 portrait is the only size that I do not draw multiple animals.  It is just too small an area to create two or more distinct subjects.

An 11x14 portrait can have up to three animals depicted.

12x16 and 20x24 portrait sizes can have up to five animals depicted.

QUESTIONS REGARDING THE PRICE OF THE PORTRAIT...

Q:  How did you determine the prices for your portraits?

The price is determined by several factors--cost of materials, time and industry standards.  I do not draw your pets simply to make a dollar.  I do it because I love animals and love to draw, which is why my prices are lower than most commerical artists.  When I first started this site I charged a cheaper price, but several commercial artists and customers alike brought it to my attention that by offering my work below market value hurt all artists and the art field as a whole, by reducing the intrinsic value of art itself.  As such I have come up with what I believe is a fair and reasonable price for the unique work I do.  I have had many happy customers and I hope that you who are reading this will be my newest satisfied customer soon!

Q:  If I have multiple animals in one portrait does it increase the cost of that portrait?

No, it does not if the subjects are all animals.

Q:  If I want the portrait framed, how much will it add to the cost of the portrait?

I get asked this a lot.  First let me explain your portrait will be matted when it is sent to you and you can then easily buy a frame of your choosing.  If you prefer me to frame it, then the simple answer is it will cost as much as you want it to cost.  I only charge you how much the frame costs for me to purchase.  So the cost is dependant upon your choice of the type of frame.  The higher the quality you want, the more it will add to the cost of the portrait.  Keep in mind this extra weight will also increase your cost of shipping.

Q:  How much will it cost to ship the portrait?

This is a difficult one to answer as well, because it depends on several factors.  Such as how fast you want it, if you prefer a certain carrier (USPS, FedEx, UPS), etc.  My standard rate currently is 8.00 dollars per portrait.  This exact amount is determined at the time of purchase.  I only charge what it costs me to send it to you (that includes the cost of the box and packaging material.)

Q:  What types of payment do you accept?

I accept either a personal check or payment via PayPal. A link to the paypal site is located on my links page.  Please email me for the correct email account to submit the payment.

OTHER QUESTIONS...

Q:  How long do commissions take?

Commissions take three weeks to complete, once the contract has been signed and the 30% deposit has been received.

Q:  Is charcoal the only medium you use to draw the portraits?

In the past I have used other mediums, currently however I am limiting myself to charcoal.
